Our origin story: How our legal team came to be

Since 1985, we’ve been helping individuals, families, and small businesses achieve their goals and protect what matters most.

Ross Holmes started the firm after holding senior roles in leading New Zealand law firms, working in the taxation division of a major accountancy firm, and serving as Managing Director of the New Zealand and Australian subsidiary of an international trustee company. That mix of legal, tax, and trustee experience shaped the way we still work today: practical, careful, and always focused on outcomes for our clients.

Over time, Ross was joined by:

  • Senior Associate – Neena Bartlett

  • Senior Legal Executive – Janet Holmes

  • Senior Registered Legal Executive – Kirsty Hourigan

Together, we are a tight-knit team with deep experience in trusts, estates, property, business law, and personal planning. We know that for you, these aren’t just “transactions” – they’re your home, your business, your family, and your future.

We keep our advice straightforward, our communication clear, and our fees transparent. We offer fixed fee options for many services, and where an hourly rate applies, we’ll explain it upfront so there are no surprises.

For clients who like to get started in their own time, we also provide a range of intelligent online legal documents for fixed fees. You answer guided questions online, and we step in where legal advice and careful checking are needed.

If you want a legal team that takes your goals seriously, explains things in plain language, and works with you (not over you), we’d be delighted to help.

Will and trust-based estate and asset protection plans

A good estate and asset protection plan is like an insurance policy for your future intentions.

We can help you put in place:

  • Trust-based estate and asset protection plans

  • Will-based estate plans

  • Comprehensive reviews of existing trust-based and will-based estate plans

  • Ongoing trust administration and compliance support

We prepare tailor-made estate plans to achieve your objectives, not standard form documents. For trust-based estate and asset protection plans, we offer running instructions, template minutes, and trust administration support when you need it, so in many cases, you do not need expensive independent trustees.
